Reach for the Stars

Have you ever felt like the stars are close enough to touch? Almost as if you could climb up to their world with a ladder? That’s what this minifigure has done, and it’s a dream come true.

I built this as an inspirational build for myself and I hope it can inspire others to persevere. Step by step, rung by rung, reach for the stars!

In some ways designing LEGO models like this one is a lot like cooking. You start out with a simple base recipe and then you add a good quality spice or herb to raise the whole dish to the next level. The spices aren't there to take the spotlight away from the base and the base isn't there to overpower the spices. The two are meant to work together to create something more spectacular than either of them by themselves. The same applied to Reach for the Stars. The core of it was built with a majority of bricks from 10717: Bricks Bricks Bricks. Just basic bricks (as the name subtly implies), nothing special! With the core structure complete, it was time to add a dash of spices so to speak. These spices were the unique bricks like bow slopes, ladders, erlings, stars, or any special brick usage that would raise the overall quality. The result was a simple, polished, and almost painting-like style that was really fun to create. I would definitely like to experiment with it again on a future build.

Reach for the Stars is one of my entries into the LEGO Ideas contest "Your Build in the World-Famous LEGO House!" for 2020. Both of my creations for this year's contest were selected as winning builds to be displayed inside the LEGO House for an entire year and both models are currently on exhibit within the Green Zone of the LEGO House in Billund, Denmark until the end of 2021.

I am extremely honored to be a part of the LEGO House's annual exhibit for a second year in a row and I hope that all these MOCs from the LEGO Ideas community will continue to inspire and encourage LEGO fans from around the world to pursue their creative dreams. Be sure to check out the exhibit if you are visiting the LEGO House in 2021!
